Now maxi dresses are all the range now. But again, I wouldn't call it a fad albeit a staple in your closet. It can be perfectly transitioned easily from a day-look and jazzed-up for the night.
However being only 5'5 myself, the perfect length of a maxi dress is a hard thing to find as most maxi's I find are best friends with the floor as it drags along the ground.
